Fossilized (?) leaves, found under a small waterfall last week.
These were the first two leaf rocks I found. They’re much thicker (and sturdier) than all the others. On the left one, you can see how part of the rock has broken away, revealing the indentations formed by the original leaf’s veins.
They both look pretty leafy from this side, but the larger, left one—the first one I found—just looks like a strange, mottled blob on the other side. I was looking at all the strange shapes under the waterfall when I saw that one and picked it up.
“Oh, that’s funny, it almost looks like a—”
*turns rock over*
“Oh my gosh it is an oak leaf and I have never found anything this beautiful in my life.”
Oaks are my favorite trees.
Fossilized (? I don’t know what the best term is) leaf, found under a small waterfall. The original leaf is completed coated in a thin—and very fragile—layer of rock.
I found about twenty of these last week. Many were too delicate to move (and one or two that I did take crumbled to dust), but about half a dozen made it home with me.
They are so small, and so beautiful. I don’t know what to do with them, but I love them.
Society6 is offering free shipping this week(end), so if you’ve been thinking about buying a print (from me or anyone), now’s the time!
With scarves of red tied ‘round their throats…
