Silly question, I know.
Watercolor and gouache on an old book.
I have a big pile of clearance books whose covers are just aching to be painted. Part of me feels a little guilty—my parents instilled in me very early the belief that books are to be treated with great gentleness and respect… and painting all over them seems (you know) to run contrary to that.
But, the colored canvas covers are so lovely. And the books were so cheap (15¢ each!)—really, my purchase only saved them from the dumpster behind Goodwill. Another day unsold, and they would have been thrown out.
And probably no one would have ever again loved the Biennial Review of Anthropology, 1961.
But hopefully someone can love it now.
